When FunkMnkyz coalesced from primordial ooze, to gelatinous glob, to a loose collective on the brink of musical fusion, the initial reaction was...confusion. "We all came from different backgrounds and had our own influences. When we started playing, there were so many things going on, but we all felt right about it." Once they developed their musical understanding with one another, FunkMnkyz hit the DMV live scene and fell in love with playing loud and raucous shows without taking themselves too seriously. Gradually, their strategy more refined, FunkMnkyz graced some of the biggest stages in their surrounding area: Merriweather Post Pavilion, 9:30 Club, State Theatre, Rams Head Live, Recher Theatre, GMU, Jammin Java, Bourbon Street Ballroom, Jaxx, Velvet Lounge, Adams Morgan Day, HFStival 2010, Miami Music Festival, and TT Reynold's.
This year, FunkMnkyz will continue to spread and release their first full-length album: Which Way is Down. They won't name drop a bunch of incredible bands they've played with, they won't claim to save hip hop or rock and roll, and they still won't take themselves too seriously.
